I came across this quote recently and it really piqued my interest. The Harley Davidson Motor Company has been around for a century. It survived the Great Depression, thrived through both World Wars, and continues to flourish today.
One of the smartest things the Harley Davidson Motor Company has done was to cultivate a culture that embraces not just the machine, but also the mentality. The experience of owning a Harley, riding a Harley. Talk to a motorcycle enthusiast today and you will hear stories of being on the open road, feeling the wind and sun, and the sense of freedom they feel while riding that is like nothing else. Freedom, independence, and the pleasure of choosing your own road. What's not to love?
Life can be the same: free, independent, and lived on the road we choose for ourselves. We know this, and we revel in it. Yet we humans are also experts at trash talking ourselves and getting in our own way! When is the last time you tripped all over one of your own "good intentions"? Maybe you said something you didn't mean, or reacted badly -or failed to act- to a situation, It doesn't feel much like freedom then, right? If you are like me it feels more like chains, chains holding you back from where you want to go or who you want to be.
What kind of chains have you put yourself in recently? Your life is your story. YOU are the author! If you are not holding your own pen, -writing and living your own story- who is? Is it the story you want to live and the legacy you want to leave?
If it is not...........take up your pen! Say yes to something, or say no. Ride your Harley, or sell it. Speak a kind word, or a daring one! The next chapter is up to you. What will you write?
